7-11 Careers Provision
AGS has a robust and ever growing careers offering in both the lower school and Sixth Form. We are fully compliant with the Gatsby benchmarks and are always looking for ways to improve. For information on Sixth Form provision, please visit the Sixth Form careers page.
While in years 7 to 11 your child can expect varied and stage appropriate careers in education guidance, starting with contact with employers to introduce them to the world of work, moving through to assistance with options choices, work experience opportunities in year 10 and extensive support with post 16 options in year 11. Below is a selection of the activities a student in each year can expect.
Year 7 - Introductions to universities and employment from both school staff and external employers. Contact with Oxbridge via online resources and events. Summer form time activities designed to help students identify their strengths and weaknesses, linking these to target setting with a view to support the GCSE options process.
Year 8 - Introductions to universities and employment from both school staff and external employers. Contact with Oxbridge via online resources and events. Spring form time activities giving students an insight into the labour market and the range of jobs available to school leavers. We also offer a seven week module within PSHE on skills and qualifications for employment.
Year 9 - Extensive support with GCSE options and an introduction to the UniFrog careers platform. We offer a six week module within PSHE on work, money and career planning.
Year 10 - Work experience placements in the last week of the year, plus extensive support and coaching in form time and via assemblies. Form time sessions using UniFrog on CV writing, applications and the world of work.
Year 11 - Individual careers meetings with our careers advisor, along with talks from local post 16 providers. Use of UniFrog to support research for post 16 applications.
Whilst the vast majority of our students achieve highly in their GCSE's and progress onto A Level study, we do encourage them to look at all available options, at every stage. We bring speakers in from other local providers to increase knowledge of what options are available.
