Teacher Training and Development
We actively support professional development at every stage of a teacher’s career. Our ‘golden thread’ offers the chance to train with us on an accredited ITT course, join us as an ECT, pursue an NPQ, and take advantage of our rich and ambitious Flexi-CPD programme.
AGS has a long-standing tradition of actively supporting initial teacher training. We regularly host a number of PGCE trainees across a variety of subjects including amongst others Worcester and Birmingham universities. Many of our own teachers have become subject mentors, having participated in university-based training. We also welcome enquiries about School Experience visits where prospective teachers undertake some work experience within one of our academic departments.
We are pleased to be part of the Shires Teaching Alliance along with other local secondary schools. This partnership between the schools and the University of Worcester offers the opportunity for people to train to teach through a one year post graduate programme.
ECTs are welcome at AGS. We offer an induction programme in conjunction with Tudor Grange Teaching School Hub. Early Career Teachers follow the EDT induction programme which provides a high-quality, evidence-informed blended learning experience for teachers and their mentors. Our internal AGS induction programme benefits from leaders who are experienced in facilitating the regional programme, and it is interwoven with our own flexi-CPD package.
We are currently supporting a number of staff to gain qualifications across the full range of these courses. More information here.
We are proud of our unique credit-based Flexi-CPD programme. Staff can select from a rich and ambitious menu of CPD options to support their individual development goals and professional aspirations. We encourage staff to take responsibility for their own development, to be ambitious and take risks, to collaborate and be curious - as part of the AGS Engaged Learner community.
