French
At AGS all students study French in years 7 and 8 and then choose whether they would like to choose French, Spanish or both going forward.
There are opportunities to learn about other languages through European Day of Languages celebrations, competitions that run throughout the year and events run by LangSoc.
We run trips to France with year 8 students and have been to the Opal Coast, Paris and Normandy in recent years. We always include a variety of activities which enable students to use their language skills as much as possible and to build positive relationships with other students along the way.
The French course we use reflects the world pupils live in, using contexts familiar to them in their everyday needs and teaches them the vocabulary they need to communicate with young people on topics that interest them.
The French course in Key Stage Three builds the foundations in vocabulary, phonics and grammar in preparation for GCSE study. There is a focus on language learning skills and strategies needed to become independent language learners.
